The "Top Gun"

The "Top Gun" is one of the finest 46' Bertrams on the water today. She received major re-fit work on haul and interior and her engines were majored. She receives a yearly dry dock including cleaning, polishing, waxing the haul and outriggers, applying new bottom paint, grinding and cleaning props, rudders and shafts, replace all zincs and bearings, as well as repair or replace all items that require attention for safe operation.

 

 

Capt. Don Johnson has a genuine passion for sportfishing and is extremely patient and personable with all of his charter clientele and believes that enjoying the offshore fishing experience is paramount! If you've ever thought about trying offshore marlin fishing then you've found the right skipper. Your captain and crew are very well versed in the various types of fishing techniques used in offshore blue water fishing such as light tackle and heavy tackle conventional style big game fishing.

As Capt. Johnson states, "It's all about the hunt!" Various hunting tactics are employed during the day and typically scanning the waters with high powered binoculars searching for birds, floating debris, dolphins and bait fish are evident when fishing with Don. The state-of-the-art marine electronics aboard the Top Gun allows us to locate fish and bait and fish the underwater structures proven to hold our targeted game fish. We always attempt to have fresh bait onboard in the form of live tuna, mackerel or fresh ballyhoo and other cut bait.

Last haul out/dry dock was performed in Sept. of 2009 in Kona, Hawaii. She is in beautiful condition, tournament equipped, fast and comfortable. Her re-build started below the water line, with the haul stripped, re-glassed and barrier coated. The haul was then fitted with new fiberglass inserts for the front salon windows, and the boat was completely repainted with Awl-grip (including the engine room). 

New shafts and wheels were installed. A new 12kw Isuzu generator was fitted in the sound shield below the cockpit deck. The teak cockpit and covering boards were removed and re-fitted with new teak. Interior up-grades included new carpeting, headliners, wall covering, counter tops, and new galley appliances. The fly bridge was fitted with new weather curtains and electronics. New Rupp outriggers and new Bertram logos on the house sides add the final touch of class. In October 2006 both engines were completely overhauled using high performance piston/cylinder inserts.

PROPULSION

GM 8V92TI turbocharged & inner-cooled diesels, 650 HP each, both received major overhaul in October '06. Allison MH 15 transmissions drive 2 ¼" shafts with drip less shaft logs, and 3 blade propellers. She carries 720 gallons of fuel in two fiberglass tanks.
