Ho'okela
Ho'okela is
an immaculate 32 foot Hatteras (35 feet overall) built in 1985 and
powered with twin Caterpillar 3208 Turbo diesels offering 300 horsepower
per side. She'll cruise at 21-22 knots with a maximum speed of about 26
knots.
Skipper Kim
Miyake has been fishing in Hawaii since he was a youngster, and now has
over 25 years experience. After fishing commercially for many years and
catching many Marlin to 500 pounds and Ahi to 200 pounds, Kim obtained
his captain's license in 1991 to share his skills with his guests.

Capt. Denny Putnam
is also now skippering the Ho'okela when Capt. Kim is tending to business at his
fish market. Capt. Denny as been a fishing captain on Maui for over 30 years.
He first started fishing on the original Islander boat in Lahaina many years
ago. He also spent 3 years skippering the luxurious Piper which runs out of
Ma'alaea harbor on Maui. Capt. Kim was lucky enough to get Capt. Denny to move
over to the Ho'okela and he has the utmost confidence is his work ethic,
attitude, ability and customer relations.
The
Maui fishing experience can be described as a mixture of relaxing beautiful
scenery intermixed with periodic bouts of pure adrenaline. And why not
experience it on an impeccable sportfishing machine with an owner/operator who
was born and raised on Maui and has fished these waters his whole life?
As many as 7 different fishing techniques are used aboard the Ho'okela. Methods
include the use of live and dead bait, trolling, bait-and-switch, chumming,
jigging and various Hawaiian and Japanese techniques.
Ho'okela Sportfishing also offers specialized charters, consisting of big-game
fly-fishing, light tackle and bottom fishing trips.
While aboard the Ho'okela, you will have the opportunity to catch an assortment
of beautiful game fish including, Marlin, Mahi mahi (dolphin fish, or dorado),
Ono (Wahoo), Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna), Aku (skipjack tuna), Kawakawa (wavyback
bonita), Shibi (bigeye tuna), Kahala (Amberjack), and Ulua (giant Trevally).
